5 family friendly water spots in Texas hill country

Summertime is upon us and more times than not I hear “I’m not ready for the heat” from so many people in the Texas Hill Country. And while, yes, I get it, it gets very hot, there’s a lot of ways to cool off! And many of them are very affordable. These five family friendly Texas Vacations are perfect for that.

These are my top 5 spots to cool off in the Texas Hill Country. However they are also family-friendly so you won’t get a lot of drunk tubers coming by.

5 Spots to Hit for Family Friendly Texas Vacations

Garner State Park

There’s no secret that Garner is a popular destination in Texas. So, get in early and get out there. It’s one of our best state parks. There’s hiking, water, and camping. What more do you need? You can even rent kayaks and paddle boats.

Frio River Near Leakey

A couple years ago my husband and I stayed in the cutest cabin right on the Frio in September and it was lovely. The weather was cooler in the mornings than in San Antonio which was much appreciated, but we still got river time. My niece went with us and she loved too!

Top Tip:
We stayed in the cutest place on the river near Leakey. You can book it here.

New Braunfels- River Acres Park

New Braunfels tubing is not always family-friendly but I’ve found that if you park at River Acres Park (get there early and it’s free!) and want to just hang out in the water then it’s the perfect day. And much more family-friendly. There’s even a little bit of rapids you can tube down which my niece and nephew love.

I love this place so much I usually do my river minis at this location early in the morning!

Schlitterbahn

I know that a waterpark is probably an obvious answer to where to cool off, but I can’t make a list of summer fun without it. Schlitterbahn still has free parking and lets you bring a cooler for lunch! We do season passes for niece and nephews for Christmas every year and they love it!

I also recommend getting the photo pass for the year and getting all your photos digitally!

Guadalupe River State Park

Finally, this one is a little bit dependent on the kind of rain we get, but we love Guadalupe River State Park. It’s an easy place for kids to swim because it’s not super deep. We have camped there before as well and we love it!

Now I know there will be someone who says “but Jamie, what about_____”. Yes there are loads more places for summer fun in the Texas Hill Country. These are my top 5. Tell me your top five in the comments!
