How to Coordinate Your Disney Outfits for the Cutest Photos You will Love

Coordinate Instead of Matching Disney Outfits

When looking at Disney outfits there is nothing I hate more than matching shirts. Yup, I said it, sorry but I’m not sorry. As a photographer, I hate it when my families show up to sessions all wearing the exact same thing. It’s just not interesting or real. Do you wear the exact same thing as every member of your family ever?!

Then why do you do it for photos? Your photos should show each of your personalities! Not one big giant personality.

Now, that’s not to say you shouldn’t coordinate outfits. And this goes for Disney too. You know the shirts I’m talking about, the ones that say “smith family trip 20xx” and have a mouse on it. Or, they say each person’s name. I’m sorry, but it’s cringy and I don’t think your photos will be as cute because each person’s personality won’t be shown.

And let’s be real, the matching shirts, or what I prefer, the coordinating shirts, are really for the photos!

So how do you coordinate your outfits without all wearing the exact same shirt? I’m so glad you asked. When I was planning my recent trip to Disney with my nephew I decided I wanted to get some Disney “aunt” shirts. Mostly so people would stop calling me “mom” all the time. And guess what? It worked. No one called me “mom” the entire time I was there.

Now, he’s 10 and too cool for school so he’s not going to coordinate his outfits with me. Pretty sure he wore gray and black the entire week. But that’s all good.

However, two months later, I was going back to Disney with my 5 year old niece and she is all good with coordinating with Aunt Jamie. I was also going when it was going to be warmer so I needed new tank tops anyway. 🙂

Here’s how I coordinated mine and my nieces outfits for 5 days at Disney.

After decades of traveling, there’s 3 companies I tend to use over and over and recommend to everyone:

how to coordinate your Disney outfits

Start with YOU

First, You’re going to be the hardest to get outfits for so start with you. What do you want to wear? I knew I wanted tank tops and athletic skorts. I’ve been to Disney enough to know that comfort comes first. I found a whole bunch of shirts that I liked and then started thinking about what my niece could wear and what she’d want to wear.

Show them Options

Next, get their opinion! When I saw the R2D2 dress I thought I was so adorable, however my niece is not really into Star Wars so I didn’t think she’d be all that into it. Turns out, I was wrong. I showed her and she said “that one is really cool” so we went with it. Luckily, I had the perfect ears to coordinate.

Match by Theme and Then by Color to Coordinate

If you’re running away now because I just used the word “match” after ranting about not matching for 300 words, don’t. You still want to match parts of your outfits so that they do coordinate. Just don’t wear the exact same thing!

In order for this to be clear, the easiest thing is to show you. Here’s what we wore each day at Disney. I started by deciding on a theme based on which park we would be going to. Now, I ordered a cute leopard romper on Amazon and it didn’t come in on time so we didn’t get to have coordinating Animal Kingdom outfits.

Which is why I have my recommend store at the bottom of this post! Make sure you keep reading so you don’t miss it.

Until then, here’s our outfits!

Where to Get Disney Outfits

I did a LOT of shopping around for shirts and dresses for my niece for our Disney outfits. I wanted her to love them, be comfortable in them, and for them to be a good price. I couldn’t be happier with Presley Couture. These dresses were so cute, affordable and don’t have too much going on, so they’re comfy to wear all day.

For instance, I had found this super cute little Bo Peep dress that my niece would have loved BUT it looked like something you would wear for a few hours and then it would get itchy. So I opted out of that.

So know this: If you’re looking for affordable, comfy, Disney outfits and dresses then I highly recommend them.
