After decades of traveling, there’s 3 companies I tend to use over and over and recommend to everyone:

Road Trip Pack List

Map of Where You’re Driving

This first idea is one born out of a trip I did with my nephew. We drove from San Antonio, TX to Colorado in one day. I printed out a map of the route we were taking and put it on a cork board. Then, as we traveled, he could move the tack along map. He loved it and I loved not having to give him my phone to see how far we had gone.

Games NOT on a Tablet

Next up, games not on a tablet. Because believe it or not, they do get bored with the tablets and while a great use of killing time, it can be good to get them off the tablets too. The license plate game is one my niece and nephew both love.

Head to the shop to find lots of printable games for the road.

Tiny Printer or Pop Up Camera for Photos

This next idea is fun for remembering your travels. I love this little printer that prints straight from the phone. The print quality is actually great and kids love the little pop up film.

If the printer isn’t for you, maybe a pop up camera is a fun idea. My niece loves getting to take pictures and see them printed.

Window Markers

Add window markers to your road trip pack list as a fun way to let kids draw on the car. I was on a tour in Australia once that had window markers and we played games this way. It’s really actually fun and kids absolutely love it. Make it special by saying it’s only for road trips.

Prize Box

Alright, if you’re going to play car games, you need prizes. If the idea of packing more “stuff” exhausts you, then don’t. Just take a few pieces of paper, write prizes on them, and let the kids pick one out when they win a game. It doesn’t have to be more stuff they win, it can be “pick the radio station” or “get an ice cream at the next stop”, or “gets to pick the restaurant tonight”. See? No need for more “stuff.”

Backseat Organizers

This last idea may seem a bit boring but it really does make a difference. Keep it all in one place with a back seat organizer.
