When you think of fall fun, you don’t really think “hey, let’s go to Texas for that!” I don’t blame you. Fall is not my favorite time of year in the Texas Hill Country. However if you are looking for fall in the Texas Hill Country there are places you can go. Pumpkin patches to visit and even some fall foliage.

After decades of traveling, there’s 3 companies I tend to use over and over and recommend to everyone:

10 Places for Fall in the Texas Hill Country
Fall Foliage in the Texas Hill Country
First, a note about fall colors- if you’re looking for foliage, it comes a bit later in Texas than up north. Make sure to check with the locals before you head out very far. Don’t expect fall colors until October to November.
Personally, I find Garner to be lovely anytime of year. But if you’re looking for fall foliage, then this is a good place to start. Garner has so many great trails too.
Lost Maples State Natural Area, Vanderpool
I personally haven’t checked out Lost Maples but it’s on every fall list out there. I’ve heard that it’s THE BEST place for fall colors in Texas.
Denman Estate Park, San Antonio
Denman is a popular choice for family sessions in the area and the trees along the edge of the water turn to lovely colors in the fall. The best time to visit is November.

Pumpkin Patches
Spring Creek Gardens, Spring Branch
Spring Creek Gardens is a great place to find pumpkins of all shapes and sizes. They also have fun fall activities for kids and, when we were there, a pumpkin canon! They shot pumpkins far out into the field which was fun to watch. It’s a great place to take some family photos too.
Sweet Berry Farm, Marble Falls
The pumpkins and gourds galore. They are individually priced. $0.65 per pound on most pumpkins.
Most of the Jack O Lantern pumpkins are in the $4 to $13 dollar range. The gourds are $1.50 for minis and up to $5 for super large gourds.
Check out Pipe Creek Farms for pumpkins and go back for Christmas trees! They have fun activities as well so take a hay ride or paint some pumpkins.
Fun Festivals

Pumpkin Fest, Dripping Springs
I grew up in Dripping Springs and they definitely did have this when I was there but they do now and it look fantastic! Games, face painting, food, music, and vendors. You need nothing more for a fun fall festival.
Wildseed Farms, Fredericksburg
Live music and craft beers put this one on my bucket list. My husband is a big fan of craft beer so we will definitely be checking this one out. See you there?
Top Tip:
Book a wine tour in Fredericksburg in the fall so you can indulge in all the tastings.
This one is a little different, but I can’t list fall festivals without mentioning Wurstfest. It’s ten days of fun. Basically the Texan version of Octoberfest in November.
Finally, this fun zoo festival is perfect for the whole family. There’s trick or treating, games, and animals! You can wear costumes to boot.
